Market Announcement

With a market announcement, CSPs are invited to submit a redispatch flexibility bid on one of the connected trading platforms. These bids are submitted in the form of buy and sell orders, both inside and outside the congestion area.

A market announcement is sent by the grid operator via GOPACS when a congestion situation is expected. It specifies the volume, location, time, and duration of the issue. Market announcements are sent by email, can be retrieved via our API, and are also accessible on our website — either as a text message or visualised on the map of the Netherlands.

Two opposite solutions to keep the balance

The solution to a congestion situation always involves two opposite actions:

1. If less electricity may be transported into the congestion area (demand congestion), then:

  • Local generation must be reduced, or consumption increased in the congested area
  • This must be compensated elsewhere by increasing generation or reducing consumption

In this case, the market announcement will request sell orders within the congestion area, and buy orders outside it.

2. If less electricity may be transported out of the congestion area (supply congestion), then:

  • Local generation must be increased, or consumption reduced in the congested area
  • This must be compensated elsewhere by reducing generation or increasing consumption

In this case, the market announcement will request buy orders within the congestion area, and sell orders outside it.
