ENLIT 2025: The Netherlands Leads the Way in Flexibility

GOPACS op Enlit in Bilbao

Last week, GOPACS, the joint platform of the Dutch grid operators, participated with a small team in the ENLIT conference in Bilbao, Spain. We were proud to be part of the Dutch trade mission by Innovation Quarter, alongside various other leading companies from the Netherlands.

It was a few productive days where we kept a finger on the pulse of the European energy challenges. What we observed and heard confirms the necessity and effectiveness of our approach.

Our Findings from ENLIT 2025

Working Hard on Solutions for Grid Congestion

The Dutch grid operators are determined and working hard on realizing a future-proof energy system. This translated into the following insights:

The Netherlands as a European Frontrunner: Due to the immense acceleration of the energy transition, the Netherlands has (unfortunately) become a frontrunner in Europe regarding electricity grid congestion. Many other European countries are following our developments with great interest. This underlines the urgent necessity of the joint solutions we are developing.

GOPACS Stands Strong Through Collaboration: Precisely in this context, GOPACS is extremely well-positioned. Our platform is unique as the only nationally active congestion management platform in which all Dutch grid operators actively participate. This demonstrates that this coordinated collaboration is the most effective key to successful scaling.

Central Approach is Crucial: The need for a strong, central, and coordinated approach concerning congestion management is palpable across Europe. The efficiency of the energy transition depends entirely on a clear organizational structure.

How Can Businesses Contribute?

A central message we take away from Bilbao is that large business users are an indispensable and active partner in solving the congestion problem, and they can profit directly from it:

Active Market Participation: It is crucial to give market parties an active role in solving congestion. GOPACS is the platform that gives large business users and Congestion Service Providers (CSPs) the opportunity to directly contribute to relieving grid pressure with their flexibility.

Profit from Flexibility: By participating through GOPACS, large business parties can profit from compensation while potentially optimizing their connection capacity. Our platform connects the grid’s demand with the supply of flexible capacity in the most transparent and efficient way.

All in all, we return with a wealth of knowledge and a strong confirmation: through our unique, joint Dutch approach, we can offer the market the necessary tools and certainty to profit directly from the congestion issue.

We continue to work hard to achieve liquidity and throughput in the market!
