From April 15, 2024, it will again be possible to make BritNed redispatch bids for GOPACS. With the relaunch of BritNed, GOPACS takes another step in facilitating solutions to congestion problems.
TenneT decided a year ago to temporarily stop the ability to bid through BritNed. Bids often proved unusable or were still not (fully) delivered by market participants. By improving working methods and processes, there is more certainty about the delivery of the flexibility offered.
Great need for flexible power If flexible power is deployed in congestion areas with redispatch in the Intra-day market, a “counter-offer” of flexible power is always needed in another area. This allows grid operators to ensure the balance of the electricity grid when resolving congestion. BritNed allows Congestion Service Providers (CSPs) to supply flexible power from the BritNed connection point in the Netherlands. This increases the flexible power on GOPACS for such things as the required counterbids. Connected parties thus have a greater chance that redispatch can take place with their bids and grid operators have more opportunities to apply congestion management.
For Congestion Service Providers (CSPs) only Market participants wishing to make redispatch bids must be CSP to do so. We hereby ask CSPs, who were not previously active on the BritNed connection, to indicate that you want to use the BritNed connection point. You will then be given the required location identifier (an EAN). If you are not yet recognized as a CSP or have questions about this process? Ga dan naar de website vanPartners in Energieom je aan te melden of mail naartennetccc@tennet.eu.
Bidding through trading platforms CSPs can actively bid through GOPACS affiliated trading platforms ETPA and EPEX SPOT. It is up to the CSP to choose through which platform it offers.
BritNed available again from April 15 BritNed officially available for use again from April 15, 2024. Parties can now set up their business processes accordingly and – if necessary – register as a CSP. This is the first step in making market-based congestion management via the BritNed connection point possible again. GOPACS and BritNed continue to work closely together on further improvements and a higher degree of automation within the GOPACS-BritNed congestion management and allocation process.
The more Assets, the more flexible ability More flexible power means more opportunities for grid operators to apply congestion management. Therefore, GOPACS calls for as many flexible assets – from low voltage to high voltage – as possible to be registered on GOPACS. In this way, market participants and grid operator work together to optimize the use of the electricity grid.
